    Replacement baby car seat restraint.

    Hey everyone.

    Ok so our bub is due in 11 days, and my sister has kindly given us a car seat, which is great considering how much they cost, and it's a really nice one.

    Now she sent it up to us from vic, and when i un-wrapped it and tried wrapping my head around how it works, i noticed that there is wear and tear on the restraint strap that goes from the capsule, to the car. So 1. i could see this being deemed illegal, as i would think it is un safe. And 2. i don't particularly even want to use something unsafe.

    So my question is, the following;

    1. Can i get someone to repair it? or;

    2. Is it possible to buy replacement straps? or;

    3. Am i going to have to fork out for a completely new baby car seat?

    I have emailed the manufacturer to see if they sell replacement straps, but if i can just get it fixed, that would be tops.

    Cheers, Sam.

    Yer I'm more worried about bubs safety than the law. However saying that I would never go against the law. I wonder if there are companies out there that would make a new one.

    How did you go about it all? Was yours a normal seatbelt replacement?

    Just buy a brand-new one. The hassle and worry is not worth it otherwise. Any babyseat that has damaged straps should either be sent back to the manufacturer if they'll fix it, or the straps should be cut and the seat thrown out.

    Believe me, you'll have a lot more to get your head around than a baby seat soon enough! And get the seat in the car and checked out and practise using it right away, because they can be a bit of a headache and you don't want to leave that until you're in the hospital carpark - which I've heard of someone actually doing.
    At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

    We were actually up the hospital the other day and I saw a bloke trying to fit one in whilst his missus waited with the bub. Was quite funny. I have heard its a good idea to have them in the car for a while before hand to make sure it doesn't move around etc.

    Would be just handy if I could get a new strap. Worse comes to worse I'll get a new one. I'm just not a fan of spending money if not needed. Suppose that's why I have a shed full of useless stuff I can't bring myself to throw out! Haha

    We've just had our fourth kid.

    I reckon renting a capsule for the first 6 months is the go. Get a Safe and Sound job from a hire place. It should be in good condition, they can show you how to fit it properly (and give you some tips on getting it to sit right in your car) - you'll need to know because I can guarantee you'll have to remove and refit several times.

    Once your newborn grows out of it then look at getting a larger forward facing seat.

    The safe n sound is the one we have. It's a convertable, so reward facing then changes to forward facing when older.

    I hear that the ambos actually install them for you, and show you what yo do etc. I wonder if they would know anything about replacing them straps.
