Thread: How enthusiastically do you wave?

I was in my series III the other day and I waved at a defender. He just looked at me and didn't wave. I was feeling sad after that because I was waiting to pass a defender so I could give and receive my first wave . I went out driving in our defender yesterday and I got I HUGE wave. That made me happy.

I will wave to any Land Rover, with hit and miss results.

the best wave I got was from a fellow D2 owner, it was ANZAC Day morning this year, myself, the wife and rugrat were travelling on our way out of Adelaide pulling the camper trailer, and they were coming the other way, also pulling a camper trailer. The biggest waves from us to them, and from them to us..... my faith in Land Rover kind was restored

    Cheers

I used too wave, but just couldn't be bothered anymore, I actually get more waves from non Land Rover drivers than I do from Land Rovers, so I just wave at any 4WD if they wave.

I only ever get waves back from Deefers and older Discos. Those towing campers or set up for touring wave the most, the 'soccer mums' the least. Never had a wave back from a Rangie.

I wave to most LR's but unless it is seen through the windscreen it is not seen through all the tinted windows.
I must say though not any have waved back.
Probably give up in another 6 months of trying.

Article in the SMH on waving. It's taken from the 'distance from the city' end of the discussion, not just LR - LR waving.

We should all wave to each other no matter what the vehicle!
That is how it was in Australia for a long time, and so it should be today.
If we want to keep our nation at least partly sane, lets at least show some respect to all drivers and give a wave.
The old rule in my day was if a driver did not wave back they had problem.

It is like a hand shake.. If you shake a hand of a bloke that has a weak handshake you know he is trouble.
Body language is very powerful, and we as a nation have been swamped with invasions from other countries to the point where we now have debates on waving to each other on the road.

Our culture and our way of life is screwed if we go down this road of debating these natural and humane actions.

Agree with your point Flipper but it can get a little tricky on a multilane highway.

While I wave to anyone on a quiet country road, the busier the road the less I wave and the more I concentrate on keeping the Series from getting too close and personal to other oncoming vehicles.

I still never miss waving to a Defender or Series though (if my demister and wipers are working and I can see ) even if it's across through the trees to the other side of the highway

OK I am heading back towards Cairns from Brisbane tomorrow, breaking the trip over 4 days so all daylight driving.

Let the waving fest begin, apparently my wife can't wait.

Everyone better wave just in case it is me

I find you can judge how far away from civilisation by how many fingers you get.

100km out of town on highway = a finger.

    Turn off onto a sideroad= 2 fingers.

Another 80km= a hand over the steering wheel.

Middle of BF Idaho = arm.

Waves suddenly stop altogether, and can barely get a finger in return= next town 30km.
