I don't care what colour,sex,race,or religion people are, as long as they treat me with due respect then I will return that respect,whilst living in Sydney in the early 80's our neighbours were a couple of gay women,with 2 children of primary school age,they and my daughter got on famously,best neighbour's we ever had while living in Sydney,and I have several friends in both the dog world and the military vehicle world that are long term same sex couples and they are of the highest scruples.
It's rather strange when we hear about the differing behaviour of people from other countries and how they differ from us over here BUT you know I would much rather it out in the open than hidden in the closset as it was when I was a young bloke!!! WAKE IN FRIGHT I think was the name of the movie remember--{no poofters out here]:D
This is not new, only the awarness of it is for some.
People who are transgender, gay, gender neutral, etc have been part of human society as long as there have been humans.
Its only the culture in which these individuals find themselves in that is the thing that changes.

There's a club in Sydney (The Argyle) with unisex toilets, the cubicle doors are frosted glass and the individual urinals are a frosted glass semi circular shape reaching just above waist height so as a fellow pees he faces the hand washing area. It is all conspicuous enough that no funny business could go on unnoticed, but private enough to keep private parts private. It's great.
