Ha ha ha....Funny you should say that, because I was going to say the same thing.
My Dad told me about how that REALLy did use to be the case!

The Hume for one is on a par with the Autobarns of Europe and they dont have speed limits .
I did a Murcott advanced driving course a few years ago and the instructor was telling us the same that some of our roads are as good as the Autobarns and the speed limit in Australia were a complete joke and just revenue makers:wasntme:
You may laugh young whippersnapper but I remember when a man with a bell and red flag used to walk in front of engines as they crossed the fiveways at Woolloongabba.Quote:

Irrespective of any arguments if speed does or doesn't kill, or what the speed limits should or shouldn't be, frankly, I don't want to be on the same road as someone doing 273 Km/h.
They might eliminate themselves from the gene pool, but my concern is for the poor sod(s) that they might take out with them.
I realise that all of us here, in our high-performance vehicles in perfect condition with new tyres and racing brakes, and with our massive driving experience, lightning reflexes and eagle-like vision that never leaves the road even to change a CD won't need this rubbish: STOPPING DISTANCE (Safe Drive Training), or the many other sites like it, but apparently it is true after all that a little extra speed can add quite a bit to the total stopping distance. Apparently emergency services just love cleaning up after accidents as well.
He's getting ready..........

Some terrific posts here. :BigThumb:
I wonder if the fixed speed cameras would even be able to see, locate, lock on and take his picture in time at that speed?
Ultimately, the only 'right' place to clock those speeds is on a race track. Even when it was legal to do so in the NT, the chances of cleaning up an animal were still quite high, legal or not, and there's no coming back from that .
Riiiiight . . . so a thread on speeding is related to how someone is going to organise a police state and round up minorities and enemies and kill them and invade neighbouring countries and commit an almost endless stream of atrocities and invent songs and uniforms and various secret police organisations, all without the lead-up of massive social unrest and ex-military underground groups formed after losing a huge war as well as years of unstable governments and various opposing factions . . . okay. Hitler actually liked cars anyway and I may be wrong, but I don't think he's remembered for low speed limits.:confused:
