Bob got it half right. When the top sports stars had to work normal jobs they socialised with their workmates who did not tattle tale to a journo for cash and trained 2-3 nights plus competitions. Noways they train 5-6 days, most are so fit they would run rings around equal position / sport part timer from the 60's back and as someone else said have the must win attitude drilled in from a far younger age.
They go let off steam and are easy front page fodder, whatever happened to work hard play hard? Just think of the things you did between 15 and 21 that would be front page news if you where on an aussie team or rep sport. Drinking till X am, driving fast, flamen A's, organic smokes etc.
By the same token certain " dogs" who assault women or knowingly interact with girls should get life bans n be locked up like any other thug.

Yeah, you are right, and what you find happens with blokes like Dugan & Ferguson, both extremely talented sportsmen, they get spotted at an early age, and are slotted into the system , for the most part without much thought about their development as young men, all that is important is that they perform and get results for their sport. They get put on a pedestal, and believe the good press they get in the good times. Little wonder they don't have much of a clue about proper behaviour in "polite" society. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
