Just come back from a trip mo Birdsville, and got waves from 90% of vehicles but I have to say that despite driving a Disco, I got significantly fewer waves from disco drivers than any other make.
One night n the birdsville caravan park I was camped in a whole corner of Landy's (all Defer's except my Disco). Lovely people:)

In the metro area we only wave to Deafeners and the Cook insists on doing that even if we're in her Camry!
On country roads it's a finger lift to all, especially above the 26th.
Can't see the point of waving to yobs in Hifluxs etc.

You're right about it being a while- 2 years next week. It's gone so quick. From Brown Snake attacks to dog attacks (x2) to car accidents (many) to road train accidents, to feral people attacks. The list goes on. A book could be written about this 2 years and maybe will one day. But for now for the families sake it maybe time to return to the more mundane and urbane life of the East coast. It would be sad to leave but i will have some great memories.

I have to admit that after a few years out bush I became a bit of a wave-aholic. Just the lazy one-to-two-fingers-off-the-steering-wheel kind of wave, but still a wave. Most locals wouldn't wave to tourists, but I'd wave to anyone and feel that rush of connection if I got the one (or two) finger salute in return.
I tend to think that the urge to wave is inversely proportional to how much of a hermetically sealed box you're in. If you're in a climate controlled, sound proof, tinted windowed bubble listening to the strains of something soft at volume 2 it's pretty unlikely you're going to want to engage with a wild-eyed and dust covered Defender driver hurtling towards you with it all hanging out, or off.
I also own an a MX5 sports and mx5's nearly ALL wave to each other.
However having owned a d2 for nearly a year and living near Geelong , I could count the number of returned waves I get on one hand.
I went for a 4wd through Mt Mee forestry today and was disappointed with the amount of return waves I got in my D4. What made it particularly disappointing was that most of the time I was sticking my car into the bush to let them get through on the narrow track, and they still didn't wave back. They couldn't blame sun in their eyes either because it was in mine. Oh well, I'll keep waving anyway.
if anyone waves at me in other vehicles ill always wave back, means they are part of the landy family as well even if they may not own one, they share the same love for them :D
