    New tyres for Grumble....

just put on a set of Bridgestone 697's ....245x70/16 @ $255ea.....was going to go for 255x60's but an extra $45ea , really couldn't justify. after the KL71's he doesn't look so masculine......

ahhhh, theyre so quiet and smooth compared to the Khumo muddies. Under braking no rumbly feedback through the pedal. Didn't realise how loud the cb was turned up when out on the road. Point better...actually clipped 2 roundabout kerbs because steering response is so improved.....makes me wonder how I lived with the muddies for so long. Off to William Ck on them in a few days so will be able to give some good feedback on them in a few weeks time.

they are bridgestone 697's sprint.....local dealer here in Emerald had them in stock....they would have looked much better on grumble than the 245/70's but they wanted $296 a skin.

I will certainly be watching with interest , as well, cheers, Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

well I've just been told the Strezleckie is not in very good condition and a guy last week got 9 flats on it,(sounds a bit excessive in 450 km...) so I'm going out to Birdsville and running the Birdsville track down. Leaving early Wednesday morn, back on 21st. I'll get the local skinny on the Strez while I'm out there and might come back that way if it's a furphy.

the tyres Bridgestone 697's on a D2 , 245/70x16. just to update. after approx. 60,000km on the muddies, which are not worn out I fitted the above tyres. I drove off bitumen at 30psi at speeds between 80-110kmh. I initially started at 34 then lowered them to 30, the effect immediately obvious in ride quality. I cannot fault them in any way and they are far superior to the Khumo muddies I had been driving on in all conditions. I took photos before I left but cannot see any reason to compare them after. On the roads out there I led a convoy of 3 vehicles, they could not corner as well at the speeds I was doing on loose surfaces. I threw rocks at them....which I could see in the mirrors, so if you are towing, I'm not sure......maybe good strong flaps. I have been driving these tracks since 1992 and I'm convinced these are the best tyres I have ever driven on....including on the bitumen, in a 4wd vehicle. they are also very quiet.

the stezleckie story is a furphy, met a guy who'd just done it. we didn't go back that because we decided to spend an overnighter at Mungerangie Roadhouse.....recommended if you're out that way.
