have seen dogs with only 3 legs get around fine
As the title suggests.......
Got news from the vets today that our dog, humphery, has a tumor on his inside toe of left hind leg. They are suggesting to remove the whole toe. He is only just 12months old.
Have others had experience with this?? And how have things turned out?? We are a bit worried that he may have problems with walking/running etc.
Cheers, Goose

What sort of dog is it? I was going to say the same about three legged dogs, if small they do just fine. Dogs are extremely adaptive, my dog has malformed front legs and unsupported back legs, he wobbles about and looks silly walking but copes just fine with it. A toe would be nothing. I would be wondering how the toe got the tumour though.
Good luck with it
Our 4-5 month old cat broke it's leg. While at the vet being examined a cockroach scurried out from behind a cabinet. The cat spied the roach and took off after it -3 legs going, one leg dangling.
I think your dog will probably adjust just fine.

If Faith can lead a very fulfilling life with only two legs I think your doggie will do fine with a missing toe.

I'm assuming that it is benign.

Go down to the local "dish lickers" (greyhound) track and have a look at how many racing dogs are missing toes. They break them so badly taking off that the toes have to be removed. Its quite common apparently.
If it is a large breed just be careful to keep his weight at a healthy level.
Ask for a biopsy to find which kind of tumor it is.
Thanks everyone for your input.
Some answers for people....
bigblackdog and chucaro, humphery is a american bulldog x american staffie. He is 30kg at present, and will still fill out some more.
Slunnie- not sure if its benign or malignant. Will for sure be getting a biopsy upon removal.
Not sure how he ended up getting the tumor, we will now have to be vigalant for other lumps etc.
Cheers again guys and gals,
Goose
