I hope that you have few Butcher birds on the bush symphony orchestra in your paradise. I love them
I cannot understand how some people prefer the noise in the cities to the bush melodies

About 200 mtrs away from me house is a huge natural lake. Must cover about 30 hectares, well 50 acres in my speak anyway. Swarming with wildlife all year round.
Look out the kitchen window sometimes and there are 15 or so large B/W cranes pecking about. Betty used to reckon they was Harpies.
There are 3 pairs of beautiful Burdekin Ducks often come to my back door and I break up a few slices of multi grain bread for them. Love it when they bring the new babes trotting along behind, usually about 1 hand high.
Anyway this morning I went to the back door and there were about 100 Whistler Ducks there. All started to move forward whistling and screaming and saying G'day bod.
I bowed and said good morning and then beat a hasty retreat.
Jeez, I would need a well stocked bakery to feed all those buggers.
The neighbours complain about the noise when they fly overhead at night,
I cant understand that. Its my kind of music.
And yeh, there are a family of noisy crows living in a tree behind me shed. They have 3 youngn's a few months old. There are a few orange trees in the paddock and the the ground is littered with chewed up fruit. I would rather they didn't drop them in my backyard tho. I can hear them now, talking to each other as I sit here doing my one finger trick on the computer.
Cheers.
PS: Noticed yesterday over on the edge of the lake that a Sea Eagle is once again sitting on the nest, Worth keeping an eye on. They have been using it for about ten years.

I would prefer the birds to the fools down the road to me who always have stupid load bogan music and load V8's revving at all times of the night!
The birds here that have a truly beautiful voice are the Noisy Friarbird, what we call a Leatherhead. Ugly buggers about the size of a pidgeon but a bit thinner. They roost in my custard apple tree and pinch the fruit but thats ok because they sing for their supper.
Dont like it tho when they raid nests for eggs and kill the baby Plovers that frequent my back yard.
Robert, I can relate to your joy on a smaller scale. We have a small man made dam which is filled from an irrigation channel. We use this for watering our gardens.
This dam is about 15 metres from an external bedroom door, which is always left open in nice weather. During spring this dam is a breeding haven for frogs. They stared about a week ago and they are so noisy that one friend that sometimes visit from the big smoke whinges about them.
Us we love it!
We do get a bit of bird life as well. There are fish and yabbies for food. Plenty of ducks and the occasional bird that I think is an Ibis, or some thing similar.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Lucky Man, sounds idyllic, love the kookaburras, maggies and the black Cockies, can't understand people who are upset by their sounds, regards Frank.
My local visitor doesn't sing much but often drops in to share my coffee.

Frank. Not sure whether if it is me or the OP that you are referring to here, but I will take it. With what life has dealt me, I consider my self lucky.
olbod, I just had a look at the picture of the Friarbird, and jeez you are right about being ugly. Does not matter though, if their singing is good, and as we should all know, beauty is only skin deep.

Dave, no mate my post was in reply to oldbod's (but you can claim the "Lucky man" bit if you want). The reference to people who don't like the sounds of birds or the bush was referring to a nieghbour who was going to shoot the Kooka's that live in a tree on my property, till I told him that I would shove his shotty so far up his arse......well you know the rest. Anyway I have left a small bit of my property the way it was when I moved here 20+ years ago (I only have 1.1 acres), but it is suprising how all the original birds are still here, Regards Frank.
