Wouldn't be easier to tattoo the left side of the lane with a small version of the speed sign? It could be done in conjunction with line marking. more frequent for the slower speeds, less so for higher speeds. And while we're at it, a bold lime yellow line each side of the centre one for the entire length of school zones.

Could be done if all the roads were concrete using oxide, don't think it can be done with tar, but cant see why not.

As for the wife good luck with that, perhaps you could get her a mood ring, if it works you can check the colour of that before you open your mouth, or see when to close it fast. As my mate says, god made them all the same.

Can't comment on the mad wife bit, I have enough troubles with my one here

You can oxide colour the bitumen to whatever colour you like, but most of the "colour" of a road comes from the stone or aggregate colour. You would need different colour stones to get a truely different coloured road. The red bus lanes etc are painted that colour.

White lines are the cheapest to provide. From memory yellow linemarking paint is about 30% more expensive than white paint.

There are issues with perception of white linemarking on light coloured (granite) aggregate seals. We did a feasibility study of introducing yellow linemarking instead. It fell over due to cost, it would be cheaper to just remark the lines more often (and hence keep them brighter) in white paint than to use a coloured paint.
