I just got a parts order from the UK, 2 boxes, 32kg, $1,780 in value inc freight.

Taxes and charges amounted to $302. It was sent via FEDEX, once it landed FEDEX called me and advised me of the tax, I paid over the phone with a credit card, and it was delivered to my door the next day.

I wish I could have their frequent flyer points (Wales - London - Paris - London - London (other airport) - Melbourne).

This still worked out to about a third the price of buying locally, and still cheaper than splitting the order with the other recipients.

    Was that 32kg per box?

Was the $1780, excluding the gst and tax?

I must say I did save as it was shipped without an invoice so when it got to the DHL clearance at this end they asked for one. They clearly have no idea and fortunately Ashcrofts listed it as a rebuild kit.

So 5min in word modifying the invoice to read as a rebuild kit, listing the large components that were visible. At a price that was compatible with minimising further costs and all done. I later found out it had shipped with invoices but because of the number of hands it passed through and everyone wanting their piece of the paperwork it never arrived with any.

Pricing for shipping's pretty random at the moment. I currently have 2 x 16kg boxes, each 40cm cubed carrying 2 x alloy wheels in each and it's come out at ~$350 door to door. I arranged that myself via an agent after the shop I ordered them from quoted over $600. Having said that, it's taken 5 months to have them made so they've also increased in price by 20% thanks to the exchange rate shift

I had quotes last week for shipping a new steering rack for my RRS, got anything from $170 - $300 from 3 different LR dealers. Awkward size, shape & weight makes it dearer.

I'm also looking to ship an engine back to the UK, a mate's after a P76 block & crank to build a monster V8 demo engine. Haven't managed to find anyone willing to do that yet
