Rugby Union is not dead in Australia ...at least its not for the odd 90 minutes or so when the All Blacks come to town to whoop the Wallabies. ....

I'll admit to never having had a great deal of interest in AFL, and I find Union to be a bit OTT with rule violations every 8 ****ing seconds and the play is stopped, so that leaves league and soccer.
I played soccer as a kid as I enjoyed it more than rugby, the people involved in both of them were a big part to play in that.
However, I find watching a skilled game of AFL far more interesting.
It's just more entertaining IMHO.
Although I like watching the fights. Amuses me somewhat

Actually, its the only one of the 4 that accommodates bods of all shapes and sizes. Thats why, one day we will take over the world, cause the fatties can play!

And for the fatties that are hard of thinking, or have no social skills, there's always Rugby League.

I love these arguements, crack me up... a few SA friends here always try to rev me up about rugby (union) and it just doesn't happen as I have never played the game, don't know the rules (seriously, an international game where the rules keep changing annually??) or the nuances of the way its played... given how few people in Australia actually play the game, I reckon the team does ok, but in the meantime, I'll keep visiting my mates to watch matches as the token aussie to drink their beer ;-)
