another coat of paint and dont get under it.
only joking.
for $199 i would brace it myself.
If it was me and I needed it I would go over it myself with the welder. As some one pointed out, if you take it back and get an exchange, the replacement will be the same.
So you have three options.
Get your money back and then not have one,
Get money back and purchase a better one
or fix it your self.

Update:
This morning I took the crane back to the vendor. The duty supervisor did not seem to understand the difference between a good weld & a bad one. She did however offer to refund my money.
This was a different branch of the vendor & standing right next to the $199 crane was a Sidchrome crane rated at 1400kg, costing $400, painted blue & to me looking identical to the $199 crane. The supervisor then says to me: "We used to have only the $400 crane but recently got the $199 model" The vendor is advertising them as $200 off. How can you take $200 off the price of something that you have not stocked before? I left my details in case the vendor's quality department wanted to chat.
Anyway, I ground out some of the worst welds & re-welded. As suggested, I lifted the rear of my Discovery without the crane self destructing. For $199, I am happy. I couldn't have made it myself for that.
Thanks everyone for your comments.

My son has never learnt to weld, but could tell the difference between a good one and a bad one.
SWMBO would not.
I was wondering how long it would take for a bite![]()

No I'm merely pointing out that MOST people dont know the difference I dont think it has anything to do with gender...I could name several blokes off the top of my head that wouldnt know. and it wouldnt surprise me if you went in to super cheap half the blokes in there wouldnt know either because a lot of people just dont know anything about some trades and workmanship because they pay others to do it.
Your son has probably learnt from you I'm guessing your not born knowing what a good weld looks like just coz your male![]()
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
She probably just did what retail returns training trains them to do, play dumb, offer the customer a refund instead of demanding you take a replacement unit, and then rant about the crap they get paid to sell and the hassles they deal with.
If a product is clearly that faulty i would discourage people from buying it then make it easy for them to get a better one if it gets returned.
Iv'e had one of those cheap cranes for years.... I've never seen one with a welding job like that. You really need to contact upper management at supercheap. that's things a lawcase waiting to hapenYou know, all the others may have been welded ok. You might have got unlucky.

Good work on those welds! Nice work! Seeing the whole crane, that's quite a lot of crane for $200! As DoubleChevron said though, that's not good the way it came.... Would be worth pursuing it further..
