most of the bad drivers up here in Qld are ex-southerners anyway![]()
Going to be moving to Queensland soon, and am wondering. Are Queensland drivers as unconscious of actually being in a car, on the road, as Victorian drivers?
I have had the misfortune of living among these blinkered wanderers for over two years, and have never had as many white-knuckled encounters in my previous 40 odd years.
What brought this to the rant stage was today I was teaching my daughter how to avoid Victorians wandering into her lane/ tailgating her/ coming around blind corners towards her in her lane/ overtaking in a 60 zone with oncoming traffic/ sightseeing at the cost of lane awareness and just generally wandering about the place IN THEIR CARS AT SPEED. At 100kph one of them decided that veering from his side of the road in front of us and into his driveway without an indicator was a great idea. It was that close my daughter had to brake to avoid hitting him.
I have driven in just about every state in this great country of ours but this is the only one that I have never been able to enjoy driving in.
Just saying.

Why would you want to leave Bright? Work i'm guessing. What a beautiful part of our country. On our last trip to QLD, I found the locals corteous and the roads light years ahead of our roads here in the taxed state.

I have found that unless you work in a job where safety awareness is paramount then general road common sense suffers immensely.
I have worked in coal mining for 17 years and found it translates to your every day life and speak for many coal miners as well. Your sense of potential danger is far superior then those who don't have that responsibility in their work place as you can't do any jobs on a minesite without first doing a risk assesment.
In Qld and NSW coal mining is big industry through out both states, and would not be suprised if there were many safety conscious people on the roads.
Im not sure what that says about vic but it was just an observation I have made over time.
I think what you will find is, our drivers are not much different from any where else, but because we have such a big State, decentralised I think they call it, and such a huge road network, our roads are crap, in the main. You have a Land Rover, you will survive, Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
I am moving for work. I have enjoyed living in God's own country (Bright), but it's time to move on. And It's good to know I can enjoy driving again. Iv'e got the car - 97 p38 - now I just need the place. Looking forward to the good roads and conscious drivers. I'm not out to make enemies, but the difference in attitude among our southern cousins is quite striking.![]()
I was over in Qld recently for work. Had a hire car and didn't do too much travelling - mainly between Brisbane airport / Gold Coast / Ipswich areas.
But compared to putting up with dickhead Perth drivers - driving in Queensland was a pleasure.![]()
Cheers .........

Sounding better all the time.![]()
