Leaving the gap allows those more important to advance one car at a time. Of course they also have the use of the slip lane and shoulder if really important. Was passed at the lights yesterday by a fellow using his laptop and mobile while trying to change lanes. no indicator of course. Better judgement said best to follow than have this clown behind. This was in a fairly flash looking Merc.So this guy most have been a VVIP !
Leaving a "reasonable" gap also means the repair bill on our XR6 is $7k, and not $12k, cause it didn't hit the car in front, when it was rear-ended last week...
Now, if all the traffic moved like a squad of soldiers marching, there would be less angst on the roads. Think about it... soldiers all start & stop at the same time, and maintain a constant spacing.
By doing this, they can all pass a single point faster than if they were all doing their own thing. The same theory applies to traffic.
Besides that, it looks neater too...![]()
There's definitely something to them being taught this of very recently. Having spent more time travelling this week than the longest day I I've spent on site I've been paying (more than the usual) attention to surroundings. New P platers are deliberately stopping short a full length short of lights (completely off the sensor) & 1/2 to a 1/3 short I at others.
I managed to talk to one this afternoon and she said (hey I why I else would I talk to her?) They are taught this. I need pointed out to her about the sensor and demonstrated it hy jot I being over it myself (next to her) and being a side street told herto stop at the next one. I moved forward and lo snd behold they started changing immediately. Got to the next one and we c were short and it I would not change. Told her to creep forward and then it changed.
She was amazed.
I am dead set certain these idiots are doing it deliberately.....
3 lanes wide, 3 cars all 15 feet back from the lights.
2 teenagers merrily face booking away, the one in the left lane halfway into the left turn lane so the ricer behind them couldnt get past to turn left and musnt have wanted to scratch his precious bling rims and lowered body kit on the 10 degree kerbing...
my wasnt there a pleasant display of human civility curteosy and a total lack of road rage displayed at that intersection...
