130km/h speed limits

I remember them before they got the big trucks, AT4/675 Dodge V8 petrols, rigids some with bogie rears and pan bodies, most used to run in pairs,remember chasing a pair through Murray Bridge one night they rounded me up at 95 MPH in a V8 AP3 Chrysler Royal :eek: we were 2 up with a briefcase full of black opals headed for Sydney, the miner didn't like driving on bitumin :) but he had a 45 auto to keep me honest,I got a nice stone and cash in Sydney, had the stone set for mum, it was left to my sister.

130 is not fast in the right conditions - but it is deadly in the wrong ones, I grew up in the NT with open speed limits - no disrespect to most on here but I bet I have driven faster for longer periods of time than most here and on an open piece of road with no other cars 130 is both easy and safe.

Truth is the fastest I have been on an open road legally is well over 200kph I didn't endanger anyone and I'm still here, bottom line is it's all about my first sentence.

BUT it's much more profitable to tell everyone that they are killers if they go 1kph over the speed limit and fine the crap out of them if they are caught.

In Vic., the state limit is 100km/h outside built up areas and 50km/h in built up areas unless signposted otherwise.

We all must remember ALL raod laws are to contend with the population that drive around 10000 kms a year then get out & needto drive beyond their capabiliton the open road. eg: last night doing 90 km/h in 90 zone, passed by moron in the dark & over double white lines. Laws will always be made to make sure the minority are safe.

I take offence at that. You have no right whatsoever to draw irrational conclusions as to my personal driving habits based on my hypothetical proposal. As others have said, 130km/h is currently 20km/h higher than the absolute maximum limit in all states except NT.

What "danger" are you thinking you need to outrun at 130km/h? I assume you are talking about needing to complete an overtaking manoeuvre if there is oncoming traffic. The idea would be that only suitable divided highways or dead straight outback roads would have a 130km/h limit anyway so there should be no reason to ever need more than 130km/h to overtake.

Keep it technical, not personal.
