    why is it moot?

if the people are demanding 130, being in a democracy, the politicians should be doing what the people want.

instead we have lost control of our govt and the govt doesn't do what the people want.
    What's the fear and scaremongering?

Hopefully for some of us,, it'll only be a minority that want the high speeds,,

Personally I would hope that in order to up the ante of speed, they,, (the Govt) would consider compulsory driver training for all people. To the best of my knowledge this type of training involves attitude/manners as well.

Yep. Wagga Wagga is on the Olympic Highway.
I think the proponents of increasing the speed limit are getting very confused. They started off wanting to drive fron Melbourne to Sydney at 130km/h. They changed it to Wagga to Sydney when they found out the Hume in Victoria was not that good a road.
I reckon by the end of the week they'll only be wanting to drive around Sydney at 130km/h with all the doof-doof's.

Yes, Channel 7. Home of intellectual, balanced thought and debate. Not, at all the home of lowest common denominator screaming rhetoric and popularist dog whistling.

    oh really.

i take it you didnt see the phone in poll where over 400,000 people rang in saying they want 130km/h limits.

Almost 400,000 votes in half an hour, majority want speed limits raised.
the tv poll was shown in nsw

    and..

This is a small number of people,,, and like their obviously quick to get to a phone/comp and vote, they're probably just as quick in a car to get up to speed,,
That would also indicate to me, that they probably haven't thought through the consequences of their actions/pitfalls of high speed travel.

I wonder how many of these people have lost loved ones to speeders and other various law breakers, be it attitude overconfidence or whatever, who don't have experience to hang onto a car in an emergency.

People need to remember, Every action has a Reaction.

none of what you said changed the fact that people want it.
im not doubting australia (like every country) has a lot of idiot voters out there, but its still their choice.

legislating against stupidity doesn't work and changes us into a nanny state.
