ARK PAK battery packs /alternative to dual batteries

Hi just off an 8 week Nth Ausie trip.

I have a great "Drifta" set up with a space for an ARK PAK/120 ah battery oak and a basket above for camera chargers etc.

Well the 240 v charger lead, now will not release!! but after 4 weeks got the already wired Anderson plug connected to screw on leads on the 240v/ 300 watt inverter wired in and have a charged battery every time.

The only problem i had was soft cig plug charging vs hard wired via Anderson plug charging. And the stuck 240v charge input plug.

Has any one else hasBDB =Brian experience with ARK PAK?

Not me personally as I use the older Ark Powerpack, wired via Anderson plug to my dual battery controller, which is switched via dash switch. This is so I can remove it to charge via 240v if I wish, also to use as an aux battery in our other 4wd.

Back on topic though, a lad I was chatting to up at the cape had problems with his Ark Pak as well.

Not a good wrap so far from them. My old one still gets the job done - even if I have spent the extra dollars to get a charger and few Anderson plugs so I can charge via the alternator...

Perhaps that lad was you, just looking at your location! Were you driving an Isuzu powered 110 by chance doing the Cape in August? If so, I'm the lad who has the blue P38 Rangie. I ended up having to tow old mate with the blue classic for a few hundred k's on the way south.

    Cheers

Hi I have a current Ark Pak fitted to a 110 Puma, worked a treat on AC and when using the Ark Pak DC to DC the problems started. I had it wired with the correct 8mmm wire to the rear with a 20amp fuse. The plug type was a two pin marine type (one pin larger than the other). Using the cigar lighter was a complete failure, it would run the Waeco for about an hour and get really hot and eventually blow the fuse. Have since changed the pug at the rear to Anderson and put a 40 amp fuse in it (the Ark Pak has a 10 amp fitted) and have run a test using DC-DC for about a month with out problems so far. This is the second Ark DC-DC to date, the first one failed and so did the second one purchased BCF Mt Isa, I contacted ARK Pak and they gave great service, told me there has been an issue with the supplier and have upgraded the new one. This was sent by mail to me and BCF credited me for the failed unit. Having to use a 40 amp fuse on the wiring worries me somewhat, can’t explain why but has been working to date. I run the fridge all the time and use a battery charger for the vehicle stating battery and as I said use the DC-DC for testing purposes. The fridge is 80 litre freezer type and I also use a 45 litre Waeco at times when thirsty!

    Current model Ark Pak

    Hi Drive safe,

When testing it prior to trip only drove about an hour/70ks for about a month.

The first Ark played up from Brisbane to Longreach with two Waeco’s attached using DC-DC. I purchased a new unit at the Isa, and ran it from the OEM cigar lighter, this started to blow fuses (15amp) and get very warm (ambient temp 35 Celsius), disconnected one Waeco and put in 30 amp fuse at Barkley Homestead, lasted for around an hour. Then ran on aux battery and AC when available at Mataranka. From then on used caravan parks (towing a 21 foot Jayco). The current tests are in the previous blog and seem to be ok with the new unit. (vehicle mainly stationary and short trips using battery charger to starting battery at home).

The longest trip with DC-DC charger attached was Brisbane-Warwick and back, the new unit supplied from Ark Pak seems to be doing the job with 40amp fuse fitted to DC-DC supply.

I know this blog is a little long winded, just trying to give as much info as possible, because it is a great alternative in a Defender or any vehicle when it is necessary to have the convenience of removal etc.

    Regards
    WMcA
