    LED flasher problem

I have just converted the truck to LED,s
Now I was expecting the flashers to be too fast so had bought a pair of Narva resistors.
These are supposed to be the same as a 21 watt bulb.
Wired it in parallel and the flasher wont flash at all.
Swopped it for a21 watt bulb and the bulb flashes but the LED wont.
    What do I do now?

two ways of approaching this problem:

    1. You calculate how much resistance a standard bulb gives then tailor a resistor to cover that as close as possible when combined on resistance of LED.
    2. WHICH IS MUCH BETTER A SOLUTION. Install a "Solid State" Blinker box, i dont suspect they will be more then 20 bucks but will resolve all issues immediately.

The reason that this is happening is that the blinker box is designed for a specific load in mind and when it doesnt get drained for that load it operates quicker. Trust me go solution #2 and it will be ideal, also failed to mention resistors of that magnitude get hot and you would have to fit a heatsink.... not worth the pain in my eyes where solid state blinker box will fix all and drain much less current

Problem is that Landys have a 4 pin can. The ones I can find for sale for LED,s are 3 or 2 pin.
The is a specific 4 pin Land Rover can for sale in the UK that has an adjustment screw incorporated but its expensive.
The Narva resistor is designed for this and incorporates an alloy body/heatsink but there must be a mismatch somewhere.

Try putting the resistor in series with the LED, not parallel.

The LED load resistors are supposed to be wired across the LED itself, i.e. one leg to the input wire and one leg to ground.

    G'day Keith

Looking in my old NARVA cattle dog-2008--2010 I have a listing for a 3 pin LED flasher can 68253BL and a 4 pin 68254BL (which is the RRClassic 86-02) which might fit,the later NARVA catalogue 10-12 I am trying to get it has a much greater range of LED lights and flasher units, your local Repco will have a current cattle dog!

If not PM me and I will pop into my local branch (trade A/c)

    cheers

Sounds like an excellent preventative maintenance idea. I wonder if these units still allow retention of the dash trailer light functionality for detecting blown bulbs (not that this "should" be an issue with LEDs)?
