URGENT - how hot is too hot for an LT95?

Well, I'm safely at Gundagai. I wimped out and I'm at the Caravan park so I can have a hot shower...:D

That's a double edged sword as I now have a steady precession of grey nomads wandering over to shoot the breeze on the 101 - not unhappy about that though, I like to show it off.:)

I stopped multiple times to check the temps along the way, and with my speed averaging 85, the temp never got above 87 on any part of the TC I check it it, and the overdrive stayed about the same sort of temp, while the main gearbox never budged from 76.

I suppose I can put this one down to inexperience with towing in this thing and not understanding it's limitations.

Summating (im on a mobile phone not real internet)

The engine oil that was supposes to go in them was a 10/40wt.

Thicker oil hold onto heat longer and doesn't transmit it as well.

The heat in the box comes from friction of moving parts against each other. Increase the load,speed or both and the friction increases. More friction means more heat.

Via the modern day equivalent to smoke signals fromsome place other than the cave where my hat hangs.

On edit

For boxes that do a lot of high speed work at lowish loads I use a 5/30wt engine oil or atf. For boxes that go slow and heavy a 15/40wt engine oil and for real tractor type working use 15/40 in the main box and 80/90 or an 85wt syntrans in the tcase.

Mtf84 is also a good all rounder but way over spec for the 95

No name for mine.. Yet. The Brits didn't bother naming theirs, and the PO didn't find a suitable name either, so I'm open to suggestions so we can Christen it.:)

We name ours by where they came from or other idyo scronicsys such as who owned them etc.

Well, if it's a bit of a tourer it fits. Time for a brew up Billy.

Then, he doesn't have to wonder about if he can, because he's a 101, so if you ask him, Billycan. Modesly of course.

They have a distinct personality but perhaps I am thinking of my wannabe 101. sigh.
