Thread: Generator Honda Or Yamaha?

I would go the Honda every time. I have a friend who has a Honda (one of the smaller ones) to run tools as well as take it away camping. It is very quiet which is good so as not to annoy others at campsites. About 10 years ago while on our way home from a trip we lost the camper trailer at 110 km/h. The trailer snapped a weld and bounced down the road (long story). The Honda generator was found further down the road and was fairly banged up. Started up first pull and is still going, hence the recommendation. I am also biased as I have 2 Honda Motorbikes. I'm sure there would be nothing wrong with the Yamaha either, but I would go the Honda because of what I witnessed first hand.

Vinnie. Just because it survived a crash does not make it a better genny, as I am sure that the OP, or any one else for that matter, is not intending to treat it this way.

I know if I was after a genny, I would want to know which one was going to last the longest, and perform the best, under its intended use.

Hi I'm really happy with the 2000w honda it runs the house when we have black outs, runs my carpentry tools when needed and will boil a kettle, I know it shouldn't kettle 2500 w but it can ..with the Eco SW it's great as it only runs to what's being demanded ..I.e no load idle etc ..got mine from the honda shop midland wa ...Gary

Honda EU10/20 etc. Quiet, cheap to run, smell free just about, reliable and very easy to start. Fantastic generators.

Both are good brands so you won't go wrong with either. Basically it will come down to power output, ie how much do you need to run everything and the weight of the unit.

I use a Honda Eu2i and it powers everything I need.

Just my thoughts,
Like you I have just bought a new camper and decided to buy a Honda Eui20 at the same time.
I used to run a Kipour 750W generator just for charging the batteries on our old camper. It cost $300 from Bunnings and was (is) a great cheap genie. I bought it because I just couldn't justify the cost of upgrading to solar in what was an entry level camper, considering the time we get to spend away each year.
The problem with the Kipour is purely power output.
Anyway to answer the question. I bought the Honda based on experience. I was posted to a proof and experimental establishment and we had three Honda Eui20 and they where faultless. In some of the harshest environmental condition you could ever find. And I always said that when I could afford one, that's what I'd buy.
The Army can get what it wants for special projects, and it gets Honda's. Enough said!
