Grey Nomads - things I've learnt in the last few days.

They have paid for the rig but can't afford the fuel bill at 100 kph.
Some don't care about holding up others. Same as people holding up traffic when they are not towing.

Impeding the flow of traffic is the offence.

And because it's bloody dangerous!

If you are that sensitive to fuel cost - drive less, not slower!

Don't knock the grey nomads - I aspire to be one someday although I probably won't have a van (I hate towing) and I definitely won't have a satellite dish.

I was taking my (retired) father somewhere in the car the other day in peak hour traffic and he asked me "why is everyone in such a rush?". I answered "to pay taxes to fund your seniors card..."

Driving below the speed limit is not impeding traffic so is not an offence.

Deliberately blocking traffic, weaving to stop letting vehicles past etc is.

The posted speed limit is the maximum speed alowed under good conditions. I dont think we can class having 3 1/2 tons hanging on the back of your car on indifferent roads as good conditions, and any one who does not adjust thier speed and driving style to suit is down right dangerous.

ill happily sit on 100kmh on the highway if its not a huge cross wind, but not on the single lane roads with a few bends, i feel like im driving a punt up stream in a hurricane!!:p

a nomad driving at 80 could not possibly be Illegal and impeding traffic if its legal requirement that a Learner can not exceed 70kph....

There's a difference between holding up 20 cars/4wds and 4 b-doubles, and pulling over every hour to let them pass if they cannot maintain the speed limit (or close to).

On my way back from the Cape in August I managed to overtake a convoy of caravans sitting at 90kmh (respectable speed for a van IMO), I got past the final one and all of a sudden old mate wants to sit up my rear at 105kmh! I don't understand! It took about 60km of road to pass them all! It's the one thing I've noticed about LC200 drivers, they hate being passed by a Land Rover...

Bloody Toyota drivers!
