I was only reading about this a week ago and I happens to me

This is what i was reading some where....

    Q. When driving my 200 Tdi DiscoveryRange Rover the gearstick has suddenly become very vague and is flapping side to side. Why?

    A. Inside the aluminium top cover of the gearbox, which is secured by two large Phillips head screws, you will find two large springs which rest against an L shaped steel plate giving 3rd4th bias gate position. This L shaped plate is very prone to cracking off where it is bent which will result in you losing the 3rd4th rest position when in neutral and thus the shifts will become vague. This plate is inexpensive and can be changed in situ.

The R380 has an identical bracket (part No FRC9340) which is also prone to failure.

    IT HAPPEN TO ME!!
I had to pull the cenre consle off, drill out the rivets , installed the new bracket. $38.50 and then put it all together, about 2 1/2 hours work in total. But gee the brackets are flimsy. I reckon one could make one easily enough and modify it and reinforce it to never happen again.
LR over engineer some stuff and others, ........ well something to be desired!

Rovernaut I didn't want you to think it was only BB's posts I was resurrecting.

You mention discos and rangies, does this happen to other 200Tdi's (eg Defenders) i.e is it common to that gearbox ?
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
