Take the photos, send them in and follow up with email after email as well as hard copy letters, it may not achieve a replacement, but it'll probably **** them off. Think of it as a game in the meantime provided the gear works just carry on using it.

Got an email back...apparently they can't see the damage. Sent them more images with the damage highlighted and annotated.
Apparently they don't want to admit that their product could be defective...

If I look really hard at your original photos, I think I can see some minor scuff marks. Or they might be just smudged finger prints.

I'm not sure that "defective" is the right word to describe its condition. Does it do the job it is advertised to do? In other words, is it fit for purpose?

Years ago when my local electrical appliance retailer delivered my new washing machine, as he unpacked it he noticed a very small dent in one side panel. It was a small, local business; the man who owned the store delivered the washing machine. He immediately offered to knock $50 off the price or to swap it for one with no cosmetic damage.

I would have opted for the $50 discount. SWMBO wanted a new washing machine with no blemishes whatsoever. Guess what we finished up with.

I guess different people will have different attitudes to your issue. Some might argue that you paid for a new item so you should get an item that looks new.

I lean towards the view that if it does the job, then what is the problem?

About the only reason I might go through all the hassles of trying to get some sort of recompense would be if I had time on my hands and if I thought I would enjoy the debate that I expected to take place.

None of that stops me from agreeing with those who argue that a reasonable expectation is that a store that values its reputation would simply replace such a small item with no questions asked.
