Its a bit like everyone is thinking there are increasing numbers of cowboy trucking companies on the road these days. It is apparently why the tanker truck rolled crashed and incinerated a couple of people last fortnight. Apparently the sole cause is poor maintenance by the trucking company.

No one has mentioned there have been many truck accidents on the same intersection, and if the RTA hadn't put a Don Burke roundabout at the bottom of the rather steep hill, which threw the truck onto its side, the truck could have used the up-hill where it crashed to stop.

Or does it just seem that way?
It's being shown a lot lately on the TV News, where perhaps previously it may not have been a newsworthy story?

That may be simply because TV camera crews are more mobile and because these days if there is some sort of incident, standard practice is to whip out your mobile phone and record it.

Recording the incident is a higher priority than checking to see if anyone is injured and in need of assistance. It is a higher priority than phoning for an ambulance, fire brigade, police or some other service.

It is more important than keeping out of the way of rescue or ambulance services so that they can do their job unhindered. It is more important than doing some other task like warning traffic of a hazard on the road ahead or some similar job that any member of the public could do.

    Too right.

The public has a right to know and with all the cuts to media agencies these days, it is imperative that all citizens act professionally as journalists and camera operators. It is very unprofessional for a cameraman (sic) to assist in rescue when there is footage to be taken.

Leave the rescue to the professionals and unless you are an authorised traffic controller or Police officer with the appropriate Hi-Vis PPE you shouldn't be directing traffic!

If the unfortunate situation where the injured person succumbs to their injuries (for lack of first-aid), then again you have done your responsibilities continuing the employment of traffic accident investigators and statisticians. With the reduction of the road tolls, the employment security for these workers getting ever more precarious.

Too much right foot and not enough sense seems to be the main problem with young or old. Yes us old farts do sometimes cause problems on the road but that's far outweighed by the sheer lunacy displayed everyday by the average driver.
And it's generally at lower speeds.
Saw a wonderful incident years ago in Fremantle when driving my taxi. A thick head yob with a face like a squashed meat pie and huge tattooed arms driving a ute pulls into the main servo cabbies used.
Very threatening in attitude and ordered one driver off a pump because he'd pulled onto the wrong one...and the bloke actually pulled off it!!!!
Anyway, thug fills up and then used maximum right foot leaving the servo, turned right or rather tried to and slammed head on into the wall on the left hand side of the junction.
Wonderful stuff and I can still hear the laughter as he staggered around holding his fat ugly face which had hit the steering wheel when he stopped a bit quick.
That didn't get reported but probably would have done these days.

How true, sadly. That & not having to learn to drive any more, just learn how to pass the licence. Add general lack of concentration or courtesy, and a whole host of in car distractions, and anything is possible.

Today yet another driver 70 yr old instead of reversing out of parking selected drive and ploughed through a shop. A girl was injured with scratches.
With the increasing El fresco ( out in the cold) coffee places serving up on the footpath, people sit close to the kerb and gutter it's not the safest spot to drink coffee.
Maybe the Road authorities now need to put crash barriers on the kerbs.

I do not think that that it is the case, what happens now is that accidents are reported more than before.
I remember early in the 70's there were 2 used car dealers in the south west of Sydney that use to sell cars with or without drivers license.
New comers that did not speak English used to pay more for a car with the DL included and there were terrible accidents as a result of this corrupted way to sell cars
    These accidents never were reported.
