    1000 litre pod tank

I was thinking of getting a couple of these and mounting on the tray of the 2B FC for fire response.
These are the ones in a cage for $100 odd.
They are a white plastic material and I am worried that they would be subject to UV degradation.
Has anyone used them and do they have a date stamp or some means of knowing their age?
Would painting them prolong their lifespan?

I've had this for a few years & bought it mainly for fire purposes but I'm using it for irrigation as well as I've adapted our vegie garden sprays to suit.
I have the quick fill which fills the tank from the dam in around 4 minutes. Well worth the money.
It's a Davey pump sitting on an Honda 160 4 stroke both of which sit on a Silvan tank & came with a fire hose & nozzle.
Excellent pressure & distance although I can't comment on the performance of the equipment mentioned in the following post.

Maybe a little bit more in cost but efficiency is paramount where we live.
    Just something to cogitate on.

I have had one for about 5 years and it appears UV stable. It was stored outdoors for a few years before I took possession of it, so it could be at least 8 years old. it has the light duty gal tube 'cage'. i have not been able to find an appropriate connector for the outlet. it seems to lack a thread. i just use it to transport water for fire control and mixing liquid fertiliser. I just pump out the water using a suction hose and one way ball valve. for a $100 it sounds like a steal.

Get a galvanized steel one for bushfire response, we have 5000L on an old Ford truck in two ex-RFS tanks.

Hi Didiman, mine seems to be lasting quite well unpainted but painting it would help, I am sure. Any paint that will stick to the plastic and be opaque would be fine. You could wrap it in a tarp when not using it to get almost the same effect. You can buy thread adaptors from farm irrigation supplies places to allow you to use standard poly fittings. Thirty dollars a few years ago , I think. I use a five horse Honda look alike firefighter which takes seven minutes to fill it . Pressure is excellent and I have equipped it with one Stortz fitting to suit fire hoses on one outlet and an inch garden hose fitting on the other . The 2 inch outlet feeds into the top of the tank. It is easy to remove from the double axle trailer when I need it for other uses. Altogether a good piece of kit. Cheers, 130man.

Most of those cheap white plastic ones go brittle very quickly so make sure you get good quality ones.

Simply paint them with a good UV stable paint.
Have found a few hidden in the bush with camo style paint, the paint seems to stick.

I think most of the newer units are UV stable, but it could also be dependent on what they were originally used for. You'll need to be careful filling them with water, driving around in the back of a ute. 1/2-3/4 full with no baffles, can put you in a predicament really quick,,,, even in a 3T tip truck
We have them at work with silicone fluid.
If you manage to find what companies are using them, you should be able to hunt around and not pay more than $40-50 for one.
Although these are designed to be reused, many companies have to pay to get rid of them. A couple of "redback's", or a slab for the right person should snare you one.

Don't forget to find out what has been in them, and wash/rinse them properly.

The square gal RFS tanks have a reputation of splitting around the base unless in a gimble mount or with the truck tray on a tripod mounting (the tray hinged at the rear and a single front pivot so that the tray stays flat while the truck chassis twists below).

On a SIIB there is not as much flex in the chassis so likely not a problem.

On the 1000lt liquid pallets, there are some that are inside a sheet metal box, rather than the metal lattice frame. Quite rare, but what the sun can't get to the UV can't degrade. I believe they are used for light sensitive liquids.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I assume you mean an IBC (Intermediate Bulk Container)?
We have had a few (of unknown age) sitting outside for a few years in the harsh WA sun with no signs of deterioration.
