ADSL1 is a technology, having a max of 8mbit.
ADSL2+ is a technology, having a max of (legally) 20mbit and (actually) 32mbit
if you cant get ADSL2 its cause the DSLAM hasnt been upgraded. i dont think there is any telstra exchange that cant do ADSL2+ and hasnt been for years.

chances are, if your not getting speeds above 8mbit, its cause your too far from the exchange.

if they were really old, they would be aluminum.

I am only going by what the service blokes tell me,but with the continued dry weather we have had reasonable phone and internet,we will see what happens between now and Xmas 2014 :D

I do not think that is right - our local (Telstra) exchange has no ADSL of any kind, and I am sure there are many other small exchanges in the same situation.

sorry, you're right, i worded that badly.
there are no exchanges that do adsl1 only.
if an exchange has xdsl, it will be adsl2+.
