    Little Scouse's first canoe trip

Seeing as we're so close to the Nepean River now, I dragged out our old family canoe a few weeks ago. A couple of fiberglass repairs were carried out & Owen & I gave it a run this afternoon on the river.

This is Owen's first time in a canoe & he behaved himself admirably for something completely new to him.

We didn't get too far upstream from the Douglas Park causeway, maybe 2.5 - 3.0km before the river became too tight to navigate.

Still, it gave the old arms a workout & no-one fell in, so that's a win/win as far as I'm concerned.

Next time we'll head downstream .

    Apologies for the misty spot.....

Good stuff Scouse. Nothing like spending time in the outdoors with the 'billy lids'.

I have vague memories of sitting up the front of a canadian canoe on the Snowy River - I was 6 years old at the time, before Jindabyne dam was built and flows were regulated. Family had to get out and walk around some of the rapids while dad roped the canoe down.

Well done, that looks like a beautiful part of Australia to spend some quality time and create lasting memories.

I had a canoe when I was a kid, had the time of my life on Lake Macquarie and at Port Stephens. Good to see people enjoying the outdoors in a canoe!!

I was very surprised that he hopped into the canoe without a fuss. He was fairly quiet on the upward leg but certainly enjoyed himself on the way back.

There was also an amazing (to me at least) amount of wildlife along the rocky river bank; we saw dozens of water dragons & a couple of bearded dragons along with a red belly black snake that swam across the bow. I thought it was a lizard at first until it slithered up the rock bank.
I wasn't impressed to see a few goats though .

It certainly is a nice way to spend a hour or so, the downstream route is supposedly passable all the way to Menangle Weir but I can't see my arms lasting that long .

This canoe is the one our family had when I was a kid. It's an old B-Line Wallaby & weighs a ton but for around 35-40 years old, it's not too bad .

I miss our old 16ft canadian canoe that some bastard stole, nowadays people seem to think they are made of gold fibre.

Good onya mate, you just inspired me to order the granddaughters a couple of kids kayaks from BCF so that they don't pinch mine anymore.
