Anything over 100-200km I work on covering 80km each hour of travel.....this takes into account traffic, toilet stops, lunch etc.....this is traveling at the posted speed ie not driving at 80km/hr

Yep...agree with that. Several years ago I started a "rolling log" of average travelling times... and it's interesting that having done several interstate trips in a Commodore V8 and the P38, the average driving time (not elapsed time) between BNE-SYD was a shade under 78km/hr in both vehicles. Average journey speeds around Bris metro area over the past 10 yrs have dropped from 32km/hr to 24 km/hr:mad:
As mentioned, GM is far more accurate than a Tom Tom - particularly if you have any unsealed roads to travel on - the Tom Tom seems to think your average speed will be 40 to 50KPH when on the dirt...
I did 2 trips Syd/Bris last year to deliver 2 D1's first trip New England, what a goat track,2nd was Pacific H'way good quality road a lot dual h'wy beautiful drive just a shame that the D1 was a little tired, but we averaged about 85kph, both V8 gassed.
Would trust GM before Garmin. Travelled with mate whouses his Garmin & both times it has taken the longest route & longest time, one time it took him down a road which was not connected (paddock in the way).
