Realistic travel times - google maps

NSW - Chatswood to Tenterfield via the A15 (new England). Google maps says 7 hours 22 minutes.

How accurate have you found google maps times? I recognise it probably doesn't take in to account stop/rest room/meal times.

I find Google maps more accurate than my GPS (TomTom). Heading somewhere on Friday night and GM said 52mins, TomTom said 1 hour 10. Actually came out to 53mins.

Even On longer trips, I find GM pretty close.

I'm pretty sure Google Maps attempts to adjust for peak hour traffic. So maybe search again at a different time of day & see what happens.

Anyway, Chatswood - Tenterfield would be a least that long. Not any less.

    At least that long.....

That's what I thought. Seems a little short

I'd add about an extra 40 minutes; more if you've got children.

Have you thought about going up the Buckets Way? You'd save almost an hour.

    Hi,

Another thing google maps will do is add 20 minutes if you have to go through a security check point, like for instance a street address inside a barracks area.

Probably very accurately reflects the time a stranger would take..... But 19:50 more than a regular.

I put the route into both Whereis.com.au and into Garmin Mapsource, neither agree within 50km for distance, so there is no way they could have accurate timing.

Whereis is a Sensis product, why would anyone expect Telstra to get anything correct.

Personally I'd be checking the Garmin against your eventual odo reading to see how accurate it is.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I quite like the 2 Garmin's that we have fitted to our vehicles, even if I use them as my speedo,to avoid Mr. Newman's cash collection spree.
