Just like Qld, guilty until you prove yourself innocent. :wasntme:
They state "X" you have to prove it is "Y"
It wont do the cops any good if the bikes are on trailers, as there's nothing they can do whilst the bikes not in use on a road.
Years ago, the cops used to ride bikes themselves to catch other bikes,,, these were riding along the railway line down at Mornington. They busted heaps of my mates for doing this, although generally speaking, they were usually just reprimanded, unless they were caught a second time.
What would be more to their benefit would be to do road blocks and get all the out coming vehicles. Maybe they could spend a night camping, it might deter some of the night time behaviour by some of the bogans around.
I guess with any of this, they'd be fighting a losing battle seeing as we all have UHF, and no doubt, word would soon be spread of the cops presence.
Tourism also poses an interesting point, as a vehicle quite legally modified in the State it is registered in may run foul of another States rules and get pulled up.
The convention is that the vehicle must meet the home State's rules, but how is a copper involved in a blitz like this to know all the other State's rules? If he issues an infringement, your only recourse is a court appearance in that State to dispute it and show your vehicle is legit by your home rules.
So book another holiday in another couple of months, or just cough up!
I am a life member of the Australian Motorcycle Trail Riders Association. I have personally met Dan Hilton from the solo squad and found him to be a very reasonable person. I don't believe the solo squad would pick on any one or vehicle with minor compliance issues. As far as I am concerned there should be more patrols by the police in frequently used forest areas close to Melbourne.
