War of the Worlds
Hard to believe, seventy years ago.
ABC radio is broadcasting the original 1938 broadcast of War of the Worlds, which caused such a sensation back then. I'm listening on 612 ABC, Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Love "War of the Worlds". Saw the Jeff Waynes musical version of it a few years ago in Sydney (2007). I also have the original LP version when it was released way back in 1978.
Also.... DVD version of the Wembley Arena stage show in 2006, A CD version of the musical and also a 2012 updated version of the CD.
You might say I am a "War of the Worlds" tragic. I think H.G. Wells was a brilliant author, way before his time.
I also have the DVD movie version with Tom Cruise, but as usual the Yanks made a mess of it.
Jeff Wayne's musical version was excellent.
Just so it's not lost on people, just drawing attention to the significance, Bob's original post and the link is to a recording of the 1938 radio broadcast from the Mercury theatre with Orson Wells seventy years ago.
Amazing radio drama for it's time. For what happened, i's a bit like watching the latest Batman movie and thinking it was a live news report.
I grew up on the Jeff Wayne production- getting thrills when Thunderchild took the fight to the Martians, running away with the crowd when the heat ray fired, feeling the sadness of Forever Autumn...
Love Herbie Flowers' bass work, Richard Burton and David Essex's voices. Magic stuff.
Oglevie the astronomer is a ***** who doesn't know what he's on about.
Jeff Wayne also did a good production of Spartacus.
Edit: What?!! ***** is a legitimate word. What happens when you get a thorn in your finger?
