    Your other forms of transport?

    Hey all,

Other than your land rover/ranger rover what form(s) of transport do you use?

I've had my license for almost 20yrs, having driven cars about 3 yrs ago I also made the move onto two wheels: maxi scooter and now a motorbike.

I work in the Perth CBD or just on the outskirts the parking situation is just like in every other city, terrible! Huge cost, lack of spots etc etc. I switched to driving to a train station and catching a train in but after a while I was over it.

Decided to get a 250cc scooter at first, got a license to ride it but then LAMS came in and I thought I'd be better off with a manual bike - got my open class. Anyway - benefit is I have free parking, cheap to run (2 weeks on under $20), freedom of travel (not bound by timetables or early bird parking deals). The only disadvantage is the lack of carry space - but that just means going home to get the car.

I've fallen into car racing since owning a couple of small Honda cars, still going but slowly building a project racecar, 4x4ing bit me hard when I got my Nissan Datsun 720 and took that out to the dunes and powerlines. Diesel was also the new fuel for me and I've never looked back, refuse to buy a petrol 4x4 and will for ever if I can.

Obviously for everyone reasons will be different, modes of transport will be different - if you'd like to share what/why pls do so..

    Cheers Mike

I don't have a land rover yet. Have a defender on order for delivery in the middle of next year. I currently have a Dmax to cart all of my toys but my other mode of transport are bicycles. At the moment with 3 of us in the house there are 10 bikes in the house and shed. Not to mention the 2 frames waiting to be built up. 4 of the bikes are mine as is one of the frames.

The upside of this is the free parking at work but any money you save on transport generally goes into maintenance, clothes, shoes, helmets and food. Although an added bonus when we took up cycle commuting was the decrease in power and water bills due to showering at work in the morning.

My reason for cycling is fitness and for me nothing beats the freedom of being on a bike even if it is to go to work and I rarely go on holiday without taking one of my mountain bikes.

When not in the Classic, I'm using my Wife's Mazda 121 as the Daily Driver. Such a change.... 2 tonnes of V8 Pommy 4WD, to a 4 - pot Hiroshima-screamer. (Saw 5,900 RPM tonite ) Economy is so good.... with the savings I can now afford to run the Bottomless Pit.

    Twice a week...

I've got the Disco and a Fairlane Ghia that I bought while working in Townsville, because I was over sharing utes with a dozen other blokes. The Ford is so reliable and cheap to run (in comparision with the Land Rover) that it is now the daily drive. I also have a Goldwing that can carry three cartons of beer plus, in the dry.

Now clear the decks, Mr Marsh is on the way.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
