    Angry Do you love dogs?

Well this news will make your blood boil
"Something like 17,000 dogs are put to death each year in the industry and there seems to be a massive toll of animals injured."

Unwanted greyhounds routinely drained of blood then euthanised

I have no doubt that some will say, well we like or love dogs but this is part of the sport and keep an industry going!!

In my book the people involved in this are as barbarians as the ones involved in Dog fighting or the dog and wild life fighting during the 19th century in Europe and other places

    There is justification for that.

Yep. It is no 'sport', I have a similar opinion of horse racing. Although the horses are far better looked after generally.

My Vet is a specialist that looks after greyhounds that have been rehabilitated and returned to normal homes, and has some very sad, sad stories.

Also go and check any local pound or RSPCA, they will have skips full of euthanised cats and dogs.
All because of this bull$%t attitude of giving pets as a gift, they are cute when they are young but get big and neglected really quickly.

I personally think keeping animals as pets is a form of torture and should be banned.

But then i'm recovering from an allergic reaction to a friend's cat at the moment.

I actually totally agree with that.

Because they aren't pets, they are a member of the family, they are a companion or sibling or even a child. If more people looked at the relationship this way then we wouldn't be killing so many that are no longer wanted.

As an experiment see if the cat has an allergic reaction to 40 grains of lead applied at 1,080 feet per second.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Whether you want to believe it or not there are far more animals then willing homes to adopt, there are even fewer of those homes that will look after the animal so as not to be a nuisance to the community, and even fewer of those homes that will treat them like family members.

Stupid people have created the problem, stupid people will perpetuate the problem, we will always have stupid people so we will always have the problem of too many animals.

What drives me insane is those people who think that re-homing every animal is a plausible solution. I definately feel more discernment should be given when deciding to re-home an animal, and even more when letting a person adopt a pet.

We live in a fast food, disposable society to think that attitude will differ for animals is crazy. Nothing is going to change it no matter how much we debate it or donate to it, because this is a people problem, not an animal problem.

We members of the ANKC (Aust.National Kennel Control) as well as members of our State body CCCQ (Canine Control Council Qld)and have been since 1977. we are involved with Obedience Trialing and occasional Showing

We have have 5 pedigree Border Collies 3 of which have obedience titles of varying degrees.

Yes, we breed, have had 4 litters in 10.5 years so would not be classed as puppy farmers, all of our previous dogs have died of old age between 14 -16 years of age. none put done for temperament,as we breed for good temperament.

There ara a lot of nice people that are giving this dogs a second chance and in my book are not stupid and there are other that are doing the much of they can to stop this massacre that also are not stupid.
Your are not saying nothing about dog racing, the people that breed the dogs and the one that support it by gambling.
Stopping racing at the very least will stop 16000 dogs of the 17000 to died after someone extract their blood.
What it is your opinion about that?

In regards to greyhound racing & horse racing you are thinking from the perspective of an animal lover. Unfortunately in those industries their perspective is from business and profitability.
Not saying it is right, or justifying their existence, but money comes from entertainment not puppy adoption.

Does a greyhound have anymore right to life then the average steggles chicken?

I was responding more to the point that your animals are members of the family, and while fantastic, unfortunately you are not the norm. A lot of people love the idea of re-homing, but just pointing out that the practical out workings are not ideal or manageable until their is a major shift in the thinking of the majority of our nation.
