I was surprised that Vicroads would allow such similar plates too.

I know of a fellow who has the number plate R1O7.
The police pulled him over and was checking out the car. They would not tell him why they pulled him over. They demanded licence. They demanded proof of registration. Did you know a registration label is not proof of registration? Well, the coppers on the day didn't think it was. Eventually the owner twigged. "You've found my registration number does not exist?" he said. "Yes." one copper replied. "You dickheads!" the owner replied, you typed in R107. This registration is R1O7."
Yes, the blue boys get it wrong at times, though they won't admit it.

About 45 years ago a survey I worked on had the navigation data keyed in. Unlike most companies at the time we were using the results in a computer database - and the labels on locations had the 0 and O randomly swapped! Took a while to work out the problem.

Lets take a example of ....... Hot FJ..... personalised number plates on a FJ Holden in NSW and someone asking for and getting the same plates for a FJ Holden in another state.........even in the same colour plates.

To my way of thinking it would be possible to be booked via speed camera or even being placed at a crime because of vehicles of same make and model having the same number plates???????
What happened to a National roads rules and regulations ??????

I think it could have implications for anyone trying to fine owners of any of the vehicles.

Hi Ron. I sincerely hope I've not offended you by settling on these letters and numbers... When I first bought it I'd decided that it had to have something different on the plate.. Id also settled on Black and Silver as it will work well with the red or white.. I typed in several 101 options inc LR101, 101LR, FC101... The first was available so it seemed logical... Once the diesel is in it'll probably end up as TD6 101.... Guess its better someone you know has it as opposed to someone you don't... I know for 4 101's in SA, poss soon to be 5, 2 of those are off the road.... so it could have ended up on one of those... Incidentally, the number 101FC is available here in SA, so Stuee might not be the only one with it if he secures it in WA. Cheers for now. A Sitec who's still grinning from ear to ear because of all the WTF looks he's getting when on the road!!

Similar but different.
In the 80's we had a 323 Mazda wagon & received a request from Qld Transport to front the car for a check of the VIN.
Took it to Redcliffe DOT & parked beside a similar vehicle.
While waiting in the normal DOT line I started talking to the lady in front of me
Unbelievably it was her car I'd parked beside & it was her VIN which she'd been asked to show as well aaaaand..........................her VIN was the same as mine, which was the reason for both the requests

And the result was............................................... ................?
Who had the ringer, or was it a Mazda stuff up?

One of the DOT lackies came & inspected both vehicles & found that even the engine #'s were the same.
He noted everything down, said "Thank you. That's all we need" & I never heard any more about it.
I'd say it was a Mazda Boo Boo.
