This is a real long shot here but people I know are doing research into this. If anyone knows of a relative, friend or person who was serving in Bougainville during the war would you please ask them if they could shed some light on this event. A State of Origin format was used.
It was a fair dinkum match recognised by the Oz Cricket Board of the day & a cup was awarded to the victor (ahem Qld).
This piece of military & sporting history has been misplaced (& forgotten about) so if anyone can offer any advice on the matter, no matter how small, it would appreciated.

The official sports of the Army at the time were Aussie rules, Cricket, & Rugby. They had to get special permission to play the Rugby League " origin " match. The place to start your search would be the Victoria Barracks Military Museum, Brisbane. Try here to contact them
