If you go down the centre, drop into Barrow Creek, the Barrow ck repeater station was opened by Todd in 1872. population not more than a dozen, most people zoom by, but worth a nights rest, if just for the pub meals, Bob
"The Barrow Creek Hotel is on the road between Alice Springs and Tennant Creek and is a popular stop for travellers along the highway. The old pub was built in 1926 and it still has the original old bar, underground cellar and tin ceilings, and contains a tremendous collection of memorabilia and items of interest which have been gathered over the years. It is worth stopping at the Barrow Creek Hotel to enjoy the publican's hospitality and to hear how Barrow Creek came to be an important outpost o...n the Overland Telegraph line. There's demountable accommodation outside, rooms inside and a caravan park" .
Will definatly keep an eye out, and will say hello if I see you about.
I have a white defender 130 dual cab 300tdi - with a canopy.
Never heard of Barrow creek - but looks like we will be passing though that way.
Will stop by for a pub meal!
Ask the publican if they have the old Aboriginal nullah , hardest & heaviest wood you will find. I believe there is a story behind it. Drop in, have a look at the old telegraph station, if you blink, you will miss it, but really worth a stop. Budget an overnight if the locals are in a party mood ;) you won't regret it, Bob
