Are wheels that have had tyres burn ok?

    Hi,

I have a steel discovery wheel that had the tyre burn.

So now I am wondering if it can be sand blasted and powder coated, or is it destined for re use as a fire pit or scrap.

I am getting getting the rest of the wheels for the 130 and s3 blasted and coated, and I must say they do come up well!

    Cheers,

    Gumnut

When you say burn, do you mean, smoke & flames & stuff?

How good it will be, will depend on how hot it got.

However, given the price of them, I would find another use for it, and buy a new one.

If it didn't burn the paint, no problem. If the paint burned, problem.

Fire pit/hose reel etc etc etc.
It will rust, its ok externally where you can see it but what is going on inside the tyre????.
    NOT WORTH THE SAFETY HAZZARD.
    Bin it.

I'd say if in doubt, bin it.

The price of it failing might be your (and/or someone else's) life.

If it had the tyre burn, as in a 'car fire', I'd definitely bin it, they get up to glow red temps (or melt alloy wheels)

    Well,

I think that settles it, and many thanks to all for the very unanimous and pragmatic advice!

I do have an extra spare on the Darwin disco, not the best when I am in Canberra, and I wanted another 5 so I can try 235/85 on the Canberra disco, rather than the current 235/70.

Given my run of flat tyres this year - 5 and counting, I won't be going anywhere without one....

    Cheers,

    Gumnut
