is it just a better grade of dog food?

I picked up a couple cans of some stuff called spam at the super market, one was turkey. After opening the ring pull tab the producted was revealed. It had the smell and texture of dog food, tasted pretty average.
Got me wondering if it is just a better class of dog food that is safe for human consumption?

Reminded me of a guy I knew in the snowy mountains on a farm who went to the fridge and made himself a meat loaf sandwich during the night whilst the wife was in bed. Next morning he commented to his wife how good the meat loaf was she had bought.
She was suprised as she never bought any meat loaf. It turned out Fred found one of those dog food rolls in the fridge and sliced it up for his sandwiches. He told me over and over how good it tasted when ever it was brought up whilst we shared a brew of tea

Slice up the spam and fry it with your eggs. OK for a camping brekky. If you're feeling adventurous, try some camp pie. You'll think the spam is ham off the bone.

My sister had a Dutch girl stay with her for a few weeks in Darwin. She thought the girl was feeding the dogs every day, but it turns out she was actually making her lunch. What gave it away was when she asked my sister to buy some different Fritz, as she wasn't keen on the one in the fridge. :

Imagine those Sanger's in the hot sun.

Spam is fine fried or grilled in a sandwich, smothered in sauce. Nothing wrong with that at all. Uncooked though, not so keen
