Like a lot others here, I'm quite happy to see fireworks. I'm old enough to have known Guye Fauks (s?) night, and enjoyed it. Big bon fires, fireworks,, a few drinks, its a good combination.

But at two and three in the morning?? WTF. Why cant parents control their kids, and if its adults, then they should be showing some respect to the rest of us who are trying to sleep, because we have to work.
And don't be worrying about the dog,, if she manages to jump the 6' fence,,, good luck to them,, she'll only lick to death ,, but then at least I'll be able to catch them

You mention at the end there,, "My legal obligation",, So, "I" have to do the right thing by all around me,, but the ******* with the fireworks can just do whatever they want,,, gee there's a good thought process.

I agree with Chops.
It seems for all of December they randomly go off at any time.
I do not think it is a very good idea to be letting them off in built up urban areas.
When overseas they were available to the general public but you could still get in trouble for setting them off. I saw a few go whizzing passed my head and some going into crowds of people on NYE.

I would suggest that letting off fireworks in a fire danger period is a serious issue and offence.


Perhaps you could let Worksafe know they are self centered and should lighten up?

Victorians risk fines of up to $10,000 if they are caught possessing or using fireworks.

With the New Year fast approaching, WorkSafe is keen to remind everyone that fireworks are illegal as well as dangerous.

So far this year, almost one tonne of illegal fireworks has as been confiscated or handed in to WorkSafe and Victoria Police.

“Fireworks are banned in Victoria for good reason – they can injure or kill,’’ warned WorkSafe’s general manager of health and safety, Lisa Sturzenegger.

“And yet each year, people risk their own safety, that of their children and their neighbours by letting off fireworks,” she said.

“The fines are severe because the injuries they can cause are severe.”

A 34-year-old man from Tarneit died on January 1 after a commercial firework exploded in his face during a New Year’s Eve party. Dozens of Victorians – including children - are injured every year during New Year festivities.

Only licensed pyrotechnicians are allowed to handle fireworks.

The fireworks where I was on Saturday night were the best !!!!






I was at "farm gun" night shoot with plenty of blokes who had BP shotguns....

Geez, Chops you need a Snickers You know how cranky you get when you are hungry.

But I'm with you. I reckon a few people get misty-eyed remembering the "old times' when they were kids and the fun they had on "Cracker Night". Yep it was fun, but as I recall it usually didn't go until 2am and it was only one night of the year (supposedly).

Time to realise the world has changed and for better or worse we have lost but also gained certain aspects of life.

In regard to the above post, I believe the Original Poster referred to the noise at "2am" - so I suppose "it really becomes an issue when used .....or maybe early hours of morning.

Fireworks are supposed to be banned in qld[i miss guy fawkes night] but each easter at inskip point near rainbow beach,someone lets them go.This year[i think]they scared some kids little dog so bad it bolted.Was found next day as road kill

If they are safe in Darwin how can they not be safe else where.

I have a friend who used to live in Darwin who used to bring me a load of fireworks when ever he drove down. I have no problem with them when used responsibly.

And one of the inclusions of responsible is not at 2.00am. I would never do this. We used most of ours on new years eve and if it was to be legalized(not that it would happen) have it for one day only, like Darwin.

Now I do not have any statistics but my friend who lived there never mentioned about any accidents, apart from the odd fire.

We had them for years as kids, twice a year, and yes there was the odd accident but jeez kids can get worse injuries playing footy. Think wheelchairs.

It's just the wowser fun police at it again.
