Chasing Radiator hoses with different diameter ends - Help!

    Hi all

Does anybody know where I can get radiator hose with different sized ends? I have a Series 3 with a Holden 186. The radiator is an after market aluminium unit with an inlet hose diameter of 38mm and an outlet hose diameter of about 45mm.

The trouble is that the water pump housing is 38mm diameter and the thermostat housing is about 30mm.

I need a bottom radiator hose with 38mm and 45mm ends, and a top radiator hose with 30mm and 38mm ends.

The gap is just too large to just rely on the hose clamp to close the gap.

    What can I do here?

    Thanks.

    G'day 86mud

    First up Christmas Greetings

I would suggest that you get your Radiator man to redo your new Radiator with smaller inlet and outlet tubes, so that they will accept standard Landrover hoses, failing that I would suggest cutting and joining the hoses with a piece of tube (exhaust pipe type) that would give you a temporary fix, but I would suggest the inlet/outlet change as being the most permanent fix.

    cheers

    I like your thinking UncleHO

I have already had the radiator modified (cut the bottom corner off to clear chassis rail) so what's wrong with a bit more fab work.

Oh...there is a Holden 186 in there as well.

    Cheers

You could take a look at Mackay's online catalogues page for suitable hoses.

Warning, the hose catalogue is 446 pages!

    G'day 86mud

The 2.25 ltre Series 2/2a top hose is 2 different size ends, and it is a 90* angle if that is of help to you.

I have my Rad out of the 2a so I will measure the rad & thermo sizes tomorrow for you.

    cheers

Another way would be to get your radiator or exhaust shop to make up a 45 to 38mm and a 38 to 30mm reducers, with necessary bends if required, then just use 45mm, 38mm and 30mm straight radiator hose.
Only downside is that you'd be doubling the number of clamping points, but much easier to carry spare straight hoses instead of mouloded ones.

Bit of success...I sifted through the Supercheap radiator hose selection and found a top radiator hose with one end at 32mm (this end had to be trimmed in it's length) and the other 38mm. The hose suited a late model Holden Commodore V6.

Now to find the bottom hose with one end at 38mm and the other at 45mm....
