Thread: Loading Kayaks on to roof

Go to a bicycle shop and buy a couple of the foam tubes with covers that velcro on that are used for rider protection on bike handlebars. If you fit them over the roof rack bars and leave them a bit loose they will rotate as the kayak is slid on. Works for us. Ours are one-person poly, not wood, so they may be lighter than yours.
We also load ours on top of the camper trailer when travelling to a place with water, but its a pain having to hook up the camper every time you want to go kayaking. I supose another option would be to buy a box trailer and load them onto it.

I do have a box trailer but I would be more concerned about someone un hitching my trailer and taking off with it while I was paddling
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

Thanks for the link, I'll use the poly pipe idea for our Kayaks.

I have a couple of the Ocean Kayak Prowler 4.7's which weigh 34kgs each. I used to have hullavators which were great for not needing to lift them yak onto the roof but the limitation was that I had no room for my fishing rods or bikes on the roof.

My current setup is that when I go on holiday they go on the boat loader on my camper trailer for transport and then I use a folding boat trailer to get them to the water. The advantage of this is that I use boat ramps for launching or if I want to launch where there is no ramp I put the kayak trolley on one end and tip the kayak to wheel it off the trailer and into the water. The only time I have to lift above my head is when leaving home and unloading when I arrive and loading to go back home again.

Not cheap but for me definitely the best solution.
