I hate to admit it but as I need, desperately need a reliable vehicle and I think I will have to get a Toyota next time.

I would just avoid that road at all costs in the future :D
That's the situation I was in...love my Defenders, but when it came to new got a Toyota Hilux over a Land Rover. Six months in and 23,000km with no problems whatsoever - for $13,000 less than a new Defender. Brand passion has to coexist with reality!
Every marque has issues - it just seems overall Land Rover have more despite lower sales numbers! The new generation Land Rover's (Discovery 4, Evoque, new Range Rover/Sport) seem to be having a good run...but so they should with prices starting at $58,000 and climbing to a rather steep $262,000.
Good luck with getting things fixed on your Range Rover! :)
I have not heard of any bad reports with the Discovery 4 and most people I have spoken to with Range Rover Sports are very happy (same platform as D4) :)
Hi Dave and it is just one of a number of brands I am looking at.
Thanks to the useless off road capability of this heap I have now, I have not been off road for more than 3 years now and as such, I think I have lost any interest in going off road, so I don’t even need to be looking at 4x4s.
I JUST WANT SOMETHING RELIABLE
Hi Sam and in my case, up till this heap I have now, I have had 6 new Land Rovers and BEFORE I bought each one, I was aware of and prepared to put up with the unreliability of all Land Rovers.
But I was also expecting to have a genuine warranty, to cover any problems that may have arisen.
The trouble is that this heap is not only a total mass of problems, but this heap came with a quasi warranty.
It’s this quasi warranty that has caused all the problems.
The quasi warranty is not LAND ROVERS doing, it is the dishonest way Land Rover AUSTRALIA treats it’s quasi warranty claims and it’s customers, that is the problem.
I will probably always be a Land Rover enthusiast but I can’t see me ever owning another one while this mug company is the importer of Land Rovers into this country.
I feel your pain Tim. The thing is, trying to find a vehicle that is actually reliable, rather than trading on a past reputation is difficult.
Amongst the people I know, I've heard tales of disaster for pretty much every mainstream brand and model, and a number of expensive Euro models too.
The only one that I have heard barely a bad word about is Honda.
That's because no one wants to admit how much they pay for parts on a Honda!!!
