How is this for a sick irony

In 2003, while driving my 2002 RR, the front diff failed, and I just managed to coast onto the foot path out side a house at 146, about 7 kms along the road going to my place.

Then in January of 2010, my 2007 RR had an alternator failure while my wife was driving it, and it became a traffic hazard for two and a half hours, just opposite a house at 114 on the same road.

On Monday this week, while I was driving my 2010 RR, there was a loud bang and total loss of power but I had enough speed to be able to coast off the roadway, into the driveway of a house at 102, on the very same road.

Thats 3 major failure, over a 10 year period, all within 500 metres of one another.

    Only in a Land Rover

a few years ago I hit a kangaroo at 4am in my Mitsubishi triton, every panel down the passenger side dented.
12 months later approx. 100m from there at 4pmtravelling the other direction, another kangaroo and every panel down the same side!
that spot on the highway still gives me the shivers after 10 years!

    OK,

I can offer two engineering solutions to a demonstrated problem:

    1. Get rid of the RR and buy an old Defender, or

    2. Drive home using a different route. I used to do this, and tell the kids I was breaking a habit. Until they pointed out that I had made a habit of breaking the habit....

I hope the neighbours in that street are tolerant!!

    Hi Drivesafe,
You certainly haven't had much luck with that particular model have you.

Was it the engine that died or the gearbox?

    Good luck..

    cheers

Hi disco and not being any form of a mechanic, and not having the patience yet to crawl under the heap to check but I “think” it’s the centre diff.

Hi Gumnut but this is the final straw.

My wife is now to scared to even ride in this heap, so first off, I have no need to fix it in a hurry, and I’m afraid once it goes, it will not be replaced another LR.

I can understand anyones despair and frustration under the same circumstances.
What makes these things worse or better is the attitude of the stealers when confronted and you seem to have had bad attitude from them on a number of occasions.
At this stage our 2010 Deafener has not been faultless but everything has been fixed including a new transfer box at 100K because of weird noises ....bit like bag pipes at funerals.
Made me and the Cook much happier and it's now running very sweetly.
Different attitude to the problems we suffered with our Goldstream van when the manu and retailer showed no interest at all. Consumer Affairs and minor claims court soon fixed them though.
Hope you get a quick sale and replace it with something you enjoy and can travel in with confidence.

    That's not good Tim!!
To rub salt in it my friend stays just past the 2nd round-about, and he'll give me stick now about how his Toyota's never break....
Hope you get sorted soon - not like you have alternate roads to get home on at all!!!
All the best for the new year!

they have probably always wanted a RR in their driveway so maybe he's doing them a favour!
