    I knew someone who had one as a cheap commuter. The only car I have ever seen with a vacuum guage instead of a tacho.

    Another mate said: "the tach is broken, it turns the wrong way when you rev the engine"

    VB ?? commonbore with the missfire motor and slugomatic. Awful in every way and an "econometer" (AKA: vacuum gauge) generally nailed against it's stop 'cos the only way to move was with your foot flat to the floor.

    XE Falcoons had them and so did some dunneydoores of the same age.

    That's a ****er Ben. No matter how you drove the 'ol JB Camira it still used more oil that fuel, used to go through @ 3 litres every month or so. I didn't check the oil for 2 weeks once and the light came on!!


    On top of all that mine was an auto so worst of the worst.

    A 1970 Range Rover will just pip 150Kph and a 253 it a HT Holden would do well over, with a top speed of 174kph, so what V8's won't do 150?

    Even my old mans 1955 Customeline had a top speed of 152 Kph.

    A mate of my brother had one....a manual. My brother had a 1971 Morris 1500 5 sp. They were both Nashos in 1971 and used regularly drive Adelaide-Canberra-Adelaide on a 48 hr leave pass. They would depart Adelaide after dinner Friday night and be in Canberra at 0700 Sat morning. Then a family "pit crew" would get to work to prepare them for the return journey. Leave Cbr 5pm Sunday and arrive in time for 0700 parade Mon morning. The Morris 1500 OHC was the better vehicle (relatively) and would cruise all day at 80mph @ 4000 which was max torque in 5th gear...provided you had a spare gallon of oil for petrol stops... The Camira was also a pretty good tourer if it was properly sorted... most were prone to collapsing!

    The 77 RR topped out at 175kph. That would have been on leaded fuel when dad did that though.

    I actually think the Delica is a pretty good vehicle. With 8 people and a 1/2 tonne trailer we averaged 13lt/100km. They ride nice, but you've got to slow down for the corners.

    I do agree with the gu being a harsh ride. It seems like Nissan simply upped the spring rate to get it to half handle rather than have some proper engineering done. Except for the 4.8, it's slow and handles like a drunken sailor.

    I've been watching this thread with interest. I have driven many many awful cars, but none has stood out as totally obnoxious. But after careful consideration my vote goes to the

    Mid/late 1970's Valiant V8, especially the emissions model wagons. The horse owners of the Adelaide Hills loved them because of their sheer weight made them legal to tow two horses, especially as they crossed the border into NSW. But for sheer unadulterated vagueness, loud roaring noises with little change in forward progress, they have to take the cake. One couple had a 1977 CL 318 wagon and they fitted a tiny sports steering wheel so they could rapidly wind on the turns of lock required to change direction.

    Another couple had a slightly earlier Chrysler-by-Chrysler sedan with a 360 cubic inch boat anchor. It was so soft in the suspension that the front crossmember would hit the ground if a spoon drain was taken at anything over 20 km/h. I sharpened its towing handling somewhat by fitting utility leaf springs to the rear end.

    The sixes were equally slow but not quite as front heavy, you had to do a bunch of engine work to get the engine into a useful shape. A friend of mine had a VH with a nice engine and he didn't believe me that a 245 could be so bad until he put a late one in as a temporary engine while his was being freshened up.

    My First car was a JB Camira as well.... got me from point a to point z and every point inbetween. I was 17 so again it was transport. Funnily enough I cant remember it using much oil.

    The second crappy car Ive owned was a TF magna what a load of **** that was.

    My wife would say that the Disco 2 is the worst car ive ever owned, just by the amount ive spent on it. BUT... the wife soon stops complaining when we go bush, and it goes where ever we want it to go.

    Jesus that's scary, I couldn't imagine my 3.5 Range Rover at 120.... It'd have to be a bloody good cliff face it's going down to touch 175 ... and I sure as hell wouldn't want to be in it

    I've driven quite a few V8 Kingswoods and statemans/caprices .... Like the Range Rover they made lots of nice sounds, but didn't seem to go at all. I couldn't imagine getting to 150km/h in one. I drove a couple of XF falcons not long after they were new.... The only car I've been scared in at 110km/h .... I just couldn't drive it in a straight line ... The power steering was so light you'd veer down the road in a series of zig zags ... and people payed money for those things

    I've never understood how the standard family sedans did so little ... with so much. Eg: the XE V8's ....a staggering 5.8litres of V8 is a lightweight car.... And they barely did 0-100 in 9seconds. my daily driver, a wheezy old Citroen from 1985...yeah the one in my profile picture.. (that are reknowned for being the slowest things on the roads) does it in 7.5 seconds from 2.5litres.... and cruises at 220km/h and returns 34mpg on the highway ... not the 12mpg of those V8's.

    It's all fun though, imagine having one of those huge V8's from the 60's/70's as a toy car these days
