Thread: What is the worst car you have ever driven?

I had a Marina, 2.7 six with three speed auto. Great for smoking the tyres. It was a four door and I don't think they came with the six in the two door coupe. But it would be an easy convertion.
When driven through dips. The body would flex popping the bonnet. I can't say mine was the worst car I've owned as I sold it for a $200 profit.

Thought about the cars I have owned and the worst was not one of these as a company car I had for 6 weeks was worse than the BMW X5 (most unreliable car I have ever owned) which was the other contender. For me winner of worst car is the Audi A5.

Only good thing to say is that it had comfortable seats the only VW group product I have ever driven with seats which did not leave you needing to get out of the car after an hour due to the pain.

It was just a poorly designed car which had so many really annoying features, this being a modern car it should not still be happening.
Why was the useable part of the speedo only the first 25% of the dial. Makes keeping under the speed limit difficult.
Floor under the drivers feet was not flat and not enough room to put your left foot on the floor.
Had to put my left foot across against the door or behind the brake pedal.
This was an auto not sure where you would fit a clutch pedal if you had a manual.
Hard to see out of due to very small windows.
Almost as bad as the Insigna hatchback for lack of rear vision.
Only a 4 seater yet Passat which it is based on is a 5 seater.

This was 2 years ago and there was plenty more of the same kind of things which just all added up to hell when you are doing 300 miles a day in it.

I see on a recent 4WD Action DVD that the alternator on Glen Hadden's 200 series failed in the bush and it was impossible to get at it for repairs because of where it was located, so that would certainly qualify it for a worst car gong, wouldn't it?

Holden Cruze, gutless with the worst auto box, completely random gear changes.

I drove a 179 manual EH ten years later in about 74. I couldn't believe how crude it was. Crap gearbox with no synchro on first, brakes that needed sumo wrester legs to use. Although in 64 or so I thought my dad's 149 manual was OK but I still remember learning to double declutch. The gearbox did rear bearings every Tuesday even before I got to it, and the axle tramp was unbelievable.
I guess my worst owned car was a 1974 FJ40 . Noisy , gutless, seats impossible after 100Km, rusted as you looked at it, fuel tank rotted out, brakes needed sumo strength, heat from engine and exhaust burned passenger feet even with truck mudflaps on the floor, terrible highway handling.

A couple of other old stinkers were a Jowett Javelin and a Renault 750 .

But its not really valid to look back at old cars from todays perspective as they got so much better although even at the time Holdens were crap compared to such things as a Renault 16TS I had that would wind out to 102MPH (165kmh for the youngies) every afternoon on the way home from 1600Ccs , had a ride to die for, but still had terrible front end tramp. Funnily this and a Renault 12 are the ****boxes I owned that I remember with most affection.
    Most memorable?
Press test XY GT that was"massaged" before given to press. Blueprinted by Fred Gibson and did 0-100 in 6.5 secs with redline FR70 tyres traction limited. Man that thing went. faster than Phase 2 and Phase 3 HOs I drove although they were brand new.
    Biggest disappointment?
Porshe 928 manual with clunky gearchange and heavy clutch, or later 928s auto that just felt old fashioned and heavy.
    Regards Philip A
Had a bunch of renaults. Still got a few. 16's are awesome cars. A mate had one that we used to take camping out bush. Amazing where you could get that thing to go. Great fun on dirt roads. Body roll was worse than a defender but boy did it hang on.

    Worst cars I have driven

Toyota Prius. Had one as a work car. Appalling thing. Slow. Would not go up my gravel drive cause traction control would cut the power every time the wheels spun slightly. Beeped at you all the time.
Corolla - handled and drove like a wet sponge. Uggghhhhh
Ford falcon - another work car - boring and hopeless in the wet.
Kia carnival - hire car - just kill me please

It is a toss up between the Lada Niva and VW beetle, although reading this thread I was reminded of Renault.

My mum used to have a Renault 12 and I think that could go in the mix. For those not familiar with the Renault, it had a North South engine and was front wheel drive, so the complete engine was forward of the front wheels.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I worked for a power company as a supervisor for a while evertime we started a new crew up I would loose my new Colorado to the crew and end up back in a hire Ute, the Colorado was not too bad always felt a little cheap but comfy on a long trip good on fuel and for what it was not too bad off-road. First hire Ute was a hilux duel cab, build quality Dec. Better than the Holden but the low legs straight out seating position would play help with my neck and back. So as a long time cruiser owner I started hireing cruiser utes, loved them always have always will but you do wonder were the money to buy one goes into, not the cab appointments that's for sure. One day I dropped the cruiser in for a service they gave me a sanyong duel cab Ute for the day. Worst vehicle ever ride was terrible wollowed all over the rd, you think a tdi has turbo lag it's nothing compared to the sanyong, dash looked like it was made out of recycled shopping bags, auto g box always made sure it picked the wrong gear, no bash plates, low to the ground, aircon was rubbish the list goes on Sanyong 4wd drive my vote worst 4wd ever
