the Minis are based on the BMW X3 which is teh rallye version, which kinda maybe resembles some of the body panels.....

I worked with a guy who not only attempted the Dakar on a bike, but finished it twice out of two attempts.

Dakar looks scary enough on 4 wheels, I can't even wrap my head around getting it done on two wheels

Just had a look at the standings After stage 8.
    The Australians are:
    O'connor 43rd
    Roberts 44th
    Diener 53rd (12hr 28mins behind leader)

There are 83 bikes remaining in the race, with the last bike 54hrs behind the leader.

Have you noticed what tyres they're running? In the past BFG ATs seem to have been favoured.

Sent from my GT-P5210 using AULRO mobile app

I've caught the sight of BFG MT many times. Mainly on the Red Bull buggie driven by Sainz (Spelling?). Mainly becasue it's featured on TV alot.

I thought it a bit unusual as I thought the ATs would be better for the sand and they dont seem to be seeing much mud yet.

    Happy days.

Giniel DeVilliers is running Michelin on his Hilux, and I see a few of the trucks with Maxxis as a sponsor.

I'm guessing DeVilliers is the guy who came 4th?

If he is he commented on the 26' Dakar (SBS) yesterday, he has never had this many punctures before in a Dakar. He didn't bad mouth the tyres or blame them in anyway but he didn't blame the terain either.

I dont know if it was in this thread or somewhere else but I read the winner in the trucks last year went through 170 tyres. I'm finding that hard to believe. That's more than 10 per day. I'd imagine they'd cary 4 spares but 10. Even if they kicked off each day with 8 new tyres, 4 fitted and 4 spare, that's still not 170.

    Happy Days.
