    George Barnes, one of the greats, worked on his boat at Mc Indoes boatshed in Balmain when I was a kid, great bloke, Regards Frank.

    That's right, Carruthers was a wharfie , & the Bells was a wharfie pub. I had many a beer in there [after Carruthers left] wasn't as rough as the Rockers next door, the Bells would raffle meat trays, the Rockers raffled prostitutes. No one would believe some of the stories that came out of the Rockers, now it is a yuppie pub, probably just as well, Bob
