Angry What have i done (shed clean out)

Well the deed is done. On Sunday finally bit the bullet and cleaned out my garden shed and two bay garage. I had a 7+4 high side trailer, which i managed to fill to the gunnels. Broke my heart to throw out my old ammo box full of nuts and bolts ranging from series 2 workshop to Unimog assorted nuts and bolts.
( kept box). Its amazing the assortment of brackets , off cuts of steel , rubber wood, assorted broken tools. Im sure tomorrow i will be looking for something that i know i had but threw out. Anyway the minister for war and finance is happy.

Share your anguish. It is amazing how you can keep that bit of steel or bolt for 10 years but the minute you throw it out......

I have just done a similar thing, but got lucky yesterday when I had to make a bracket up to install a compressor in the 101. I almost thew my box of steel off cuts and crap that I have collected for years, but decided at the last minute to keep it. It turns out one of the bits of steel - a 6mm plate with a fold in it was the perfect piece for the bracket.... I grabbed it from work nearly 10 years ago thinking that might be useful one day - it was....

Don't throw out fastners or broken tools Most of all, never, ever, ever throw out fasteners .... I try to keep every fastener sorted and put aside. The hours of grief it saves when you find your missing for example an M5 x 0.75 bolt .... and can just go grab one from a jar is priceless.

Broken tools == "special one off" tools. How often have I cut/bunt/ground broken/old tools down for a special one off job I've even welded tools to the faster I can't get off to stop the mongrels slipping

I remember back in the early 70's I used to supplement the income of my full time job repairing cars at home.
Every few Sundays I loaded the trailer with car parts take them to the tip and returned with stater motors, generators and many other good parts that "will come handy one day"
It will never happens to any of you that you got rid of an object that you have kept for years (and never found a use for it) and you need it a week after it disposal?

My wife never hassles me to throw anything out any more, she has witnessed too often the law of needing something soon after chucking it out after 20 years of storage.

Years ago I used to live in Townsville (Cranbrook) and the closest dump was the Range road one. I think it was called the Thuringowa dump back then. Whenever I took a trailer load of rubbish out there I would always come home with half a load of "good" stuff. That was in the days when it was a free dump and you could have a look around through the rubbish. I brought many a treasure home from there much to my wife's dismay.
    Cheers......Brian
