    Question tyresales.com.au and choices

    Hi all,

    Can anyone advise if they have used the newly launched tyresales website? Any pitfalls I should know about? They currently have (255/55R19) Pirelli ATR for $350 which seems very good.

    Also, out of Pirelli Scorpion ATR, General Grabber AT and Cooper Zeon ATZ what would people recommend? (90% highway driving)

    Thanks, this will be my first tyre purchase for the disco so looking for some experienced help!

    Even if you Fedexed the donuts from the US in 3-5 days it should be cheaper.

    Are they still shipping to Australia - I'd heard they had stoped? I've bought 3 sets of 5 BFGs in the past, all cheaper, quicker and easier than in Australia.

    I've found the problem with buying tires online (massive savings aside) is the fact no local tire mob would fit new tires purchased elsewhere. They'd fit 2nd hand tires but not newies!

    Many tyre company service fitters are quite receptive to cash deals.
    Just don't approach them through the front door.
    If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    There's plenty of evidence to indicate that A/T tyres have a much greater rolling resistance than H/T tyres. The figure translates to about 15% extra fuel consumption...=25 cents approx a litre on $1.65 per litre fuel price...and it's only going to get worse.

    On that basis, given you are doing 90% on road, stick with H/T type tyres.

    Over 60, 000 km the savings in fuel are enormous ...dare I say enough for a set of replacement tyres compared to if you had put on A/T.

    I finally succumbed to a set of Bridgestone duelers on my P38. Two things are apparent: The average fuel consumption on a return Bris-Melb trip a couple of weeks ago rose from 11.5 L/100km (previous Cooper H/T) to 13.4 l/100km (Bridgestone D692) and the vehicle slowed down a LOT quicker on a trailing throttle... the increased fuel cost over 4,500 kkm journey was $140+. This will translate to $1,870 over 60,000km @$1.65 per litre

    I've purchased a few sets this way as well. I understand they stopped shipping BFG's (possibly all Michelin brands) to Aus. Pressure from the local importer maybe?!
    Other tyre brands (some at least) appear to ship OK.

    I had no problem getting the local Bob Jane to fit and balance mine at $20.00 ea if I remember correctly. Was a little ****ed I didn't buy from him, but he quoted 15 weeks delivery!! I turned up with the tyres 5 days later.
